Luke 12:54-56

He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does.  And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?

There are three basic ways the government of man defines time in our daily lives: Chaotic time, linear time, and cyclical time. As we delve into the scripture and the study of human history we discover  that God moves in cyclical time.  Strong patterns emerge of the ebb and flow of conflict and peace. Western culture immerses us in the concept of linear time whereby we progress from a beginning to an end. This mindset aligns perfectly with the secular humanist emphasis on the continual improvement of man over time which he believes betters his world.

However, when a dramatic event, such as a pandemic, a war, or natural catastrophe disrupts that progression, secular man is left without hope fearful of the perceived horror that lies ahead. When we have eternity in our hearts, which is endless time, only then can our understanding open to recognize, God’s time. God’s time is one of cycles, bringing us hope, renewal, and restoration, where he steps in to bring us through the chaos our godless choices have created.
